Denis' Story
From Orphaned Child to Community Doctor and Lifesaver
From a humble beginning to becoming a medical doctor—Denis is proof that dedication can change lives.
Despite his early losses, Denis thrived. He loved playing soccer and served as Head Prefect at his school, emerging as a promising young leader. Academically, he was exceptional ranking as the top student in his district in the Senior Four national exams and second in Senior Six. With the encouragement of Cosma and his sponsors, Denis pursued his childhood dream of becoming a doctor.
In 2019, Denis graduated from St. Elizabeth Institute of Health Professionals as a qualified medical practitioner. Since then, he has dedicated his life to serving others diagnosing illnesses, performing minor surgeries, counseling HIV/AIDS patients, and responding heroically during Uganda’s COVID-19 outbreak.
Denis’s hard work, combined with support from his sponsor, has made him who he is today.
But Denis didn’t stop there. In 2021, determined to give back to the community that once lifted him, Denis opened a healthcare center focused on providing affordable, high-quality care to low-income families. “We’re not about profit,” he says. “We’re about giving people the care they deserve.” His clinic now employs a small team, including a registered nurse and clinical officers, and offers services ranging from HIV testing to prenatal care and malaria treatment

The community Denis serves relies primarily on stone quarrying and small-scale merchandise sales—livelihoods largely sustained by women and youth. In this setting, his clinic has become a vital lifeline, offering essential healthcare services to those who might otherwise go without.
Patients speak of Denis with deep admiration. One local beneficiary, Josephine, shared, “He’s the most hardworking, kind, and generous young man. He has helped us through our most difficult times.”

Denis is not only healing bodies he’s restoring hope. In 2025, he launched a small piggery project to help fund school supplies and nutritional support for children affected by HIV, echoing the support he once received.
When asked why he does all this, Denis responds simply:
“We want to be like Cosma.”
Denis is living proof of what one act of generosity can do. A single sponsorship changed his life and now, he’s changing countless others. He is a seed planted by compassion, now grown into a tree offering shade, fruit, and healing to many.
“I’ll always be grateful to Cosma and my sponsors. They believed in me, even when I was a stranger.”
Today, Denis balances his medical work with teaching future healthcare workers, raising his young daughter, and planning to pursue further studies. His story is a testament to resilience, purpose, and the power of sponsorship.
